Glidden/Haish float in DeKalb's
Celebrating Community Parade

DeKalb celebrated its Sesquicentennial throughout 2006, culminating in a giant parade Saturday, Oct. 22, 2006.
The Joseph F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center was represented in the parade by a beautiful float designed by board member Jeff Marshall. It combined the Glidden and Haish families, and also represented the DeKalb Public Library. It showcased historical items relating to Glidden and Haish. The float was sponsored by JJ Marshall Landscape Creations, Inc.

Helping with the Glidden/Haish float from left are: Barry Schrader
(as Joseph F. Glidden), Lynsey Wypych, Teresa Iverson, Dee Coover,
Sharon Marshall, Jennie Cummings and Beverly Pigott.

From left: Barry Schrader, Jennie Marshall Cummings,
Beverly Pigott and Sharon Marshall.

Modeling the costumes they designed and made are
Sharon Marshall and her daughter, Jennie Marshall Cummings.

The engine featured on the float is a 4 h.p."Chanticleer" hit-and-miss engine built in DeKalb about 1912, by Jacob Haish Mfg. Co. Jeff Marshall, float designer and family genealogist, said Haish was his third-great-uncle.
