Good News entertains
“Good News!” entertained an enthusiastic and responsive audience Sunday, Aug. 19, as part of DeKalb’s Joseph F. Glidden Homestead free "Music on the Porch" series. Heavy rains that day forced activities into the home's West Parlor, where acoustics were perfect for this talented men's quartet.
All members of Sycamore United Methodist Church, “Good News” members sing a variety of Christian music. Selections included traditional quartet favorites, popular Southern Gospel arrangements, as well as contemporary selections.
Anchored by bass, Brian Edge, the group also includes baritone, Joel Maurer; tenor, Lanny Sanner; and lead singer and director, Doug Elder. Ann Elder is the accompanist for “Good News!
Joseph F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center is open for free tours the first and third Sunday each month, May-November, from noon-4 p.m., at 921 W. Lincoln Hwy., DeKalb.
Board president, Kathy Siebrasse, said the Sunday afternoon events give visitors a regular opportunity to visit one of DeKalb’s true historic gems.
The Homestead was established as a non-profit organization in 1995, to preserve the site where Glidden’s world invention of “The Winner” barbed wire was made and first manufactured in 1874.
“Glidden’s invention is a great American story. His innovation not only affected DeKalb County, but it had far-reaching impact on the development of the American West and ultimately the world,” said Siebrasse.
