    Jencks-Conley entertains
Next Music on the Porch Aug. 19

Jen Jencks-Conley entertained an enthusiastic crowd with songs from the 1860s and 1870s on Sunday, July 15, as part of the Joseph F. Glidden Homestead’s free "Music on the Porch" series.
The “period pieces" she performed came out during the time the Homestead was built and barbed wire was invented.
Many tunes were well recognized and had the crowd singing along, including "Clemantine" and "Tom Dooley."  Jencks-Conley shared a snippet of history to go along with each song, many of which were influenced by the Civil War. Her one-hour long performance incorporated the violin and mandolin, as well as guitar and vocals.
Jencks-Conley is a singer/songwriter, music therapist and licensed counselor who also serves as director of music at the Newman Catholic Student Center in DeKalb.

The next "Music on the Porch" program is Sunday, Aug. 19, featuring a men's quartet called "Good News!" The singers are all members of Sycamore United Methodist Church and they perform a variety of Christian music. Their free performance will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 19. Audience members are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs, lunch and refreshments to enjoy a relaxing summer day on the Glidden Homestead lawn.
